2020 Season Update

HAIDA TOURISM 2020 SEASON UPDATE

In an abundance of caution for our guests, employees, and community, and in accordance with the Government of Canada’s recommendations to keep Canadians safe and to flatten the COVID-19 curve, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to delay the 2020 opening of both Haida House and Ocean House in its new location. The Council of Haida Nations, yesterday, made the announcement to close access to the islands of Haida Gwaii to non-essential travel until further notice.

Currently, we are planning to tentatively reopen Haida House late season, and Ocean House in its new location on May 1, 2021 however, we are closely monitoring the situation and are adhering to the government’s and Health Canada’s evolving recommendations. Should the re-opening date for the Haida House this season need to be postponed further we will update communications on our websites and social media channels and be in communication with all affected guests to plan accordingly.

In light of the compressed summer season at the Haida House, it is our intention to extend the season for our guests into the fall and are hoping to offer our new Haida-style cabins for storm watching over winter as well. We will continue to keep our guests well-informed as these packages are confirmed.

HAIDA HOUSE REVISED 2020 CANCELLATION POLICY

To allow maximum travel flexibility and ensure our visitors’ safety, we are allowing guests to change their 2020 travel dates free of charge for all existing and new bookings. Guests who would like to postpone their stays to later in 2020 or move their reservations to our 2021 season will be able to do so without penalty.

The safety of our guests, employees, and community remains is our top priority. As we take the appropriate measures to ensure that our community stays a comfortable and safe environment, we will continue to closely monitor developments relating to COVID-19 and follow the guidance of government and public health officials.

This has been a difficult decision, as we cherish welcoming visitors to Xaayda Gwaay.yaay Haida Gwaii and sharing our culture. As such, we will be continuing with our monthly newsletters with stories and inspiration from the Islands, and we hope that you will follow along.

We thank you for your patience and for your support during this time, and we look forward to once again hosting guests at our Haida Tourism properties soon!
